This growing family loved their 1959 house designed by noted local modern architect James Webb, but need more bedrooms for their growing family. We designed the addition to complement the fantastic existing house and enrich the site’s experience. The interior renovation includes a full kitchen reconfiguration/expansion and custom built-ins elsewhere to maximize the existing spaces.
A simple modern box cantilevers over a brick foundation, echoing the logic of the existing house. Bedrooms get gracious private forest views to Southwest. New lower level bonus space provides a guest suite and storage.
New exterior stair and upper deck with glassy connector beyond. The existing house’s primary bedroom window’s is visible at the right.
The small kitchen and small sun room are combined as one open space. Minimal white slab cabinets with walnut accents. A sleek desk enjoys the view. The open dining room allows for flexibility, with enough open space for a large table or a smaller table and second seating/office nook.
